A miniaturized method for fast, simple, and sensitive pesticide analysis in soils

Abstract Purpose Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) like lindane and DDT have been used extensively after World War II until the 1990s. Still, residues of these can be found in agricultural soils all over world, especially developing countries. Often, they occur extensive areas elevated concentrations so that food safety is jeopardized. Hence, simple, cheap, fast analytical methods are needed for a straight-forward assessment risks. A miniaturized solid–liquid extraction combined with solid-phase microextraction (SPME) based on proven ISO method presented. Methods The performance evaluated by extracting three different which were spiked HCH congeners, trifluralin, aged 35 days. results compared those modified quick, easy, efficient, rugged, safe (QuEChERS) method. For further validation, both applied to environmental soil samples. Results Validation show limits detection quantification as well recovery rates good agreement standard requirements. new was quicker than QuEChERS, requires time-consuming preparation reagents. Conclusion Merits include low time sample volume requirements (0.5 g) possibility extract many samples simultaneously, allows screening large sizes determine pollution status whole landscape regions. However, access an automated SPME apparatus assumed. authors recommend this cheap alternative where available.
